| PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST SMISHING! SMiShing is a new type of identity theft that is similar to Phishing. The name comes from the SMS technology that is used for cell phone text messages. In both SMiShing and Phishing, a scammer tries to trick the victim into revealing personal information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, and passwords/PINs. The scammer then uses this information to steal money from the victim's account or obtain credit in the victim's name. Recently, we have received many reports where members have received a text message claiming to be a bank or credit union. In this text message, the receiver is told that his/her debit card has been deactivated and they should contact the bank/credit union at the provided phone number or website link. Please do not respond to these text messages! Tyler City Employees Credit Union and other financial institutions will never contact you via text message, e-mail, or phone to ask for your account information or passwords. If you feel you have been a victim of this type of fraud, please contact us at (903) 592-8012 immediately so that we can cancel your debit card to avoid unauthorized purchases. If it is after business hours, please call (800) 472-3272 to report your card as stolen.
